girls, we are now ONE MONTH away from the deadline for submitting to SUGAR NINJAS volume two (the original deadline, april 10th, has been pushed a few extra days…yay!!!).
a few things to keep in mind as we hit this final stretch:
a) consult the submissions guide when formatting your comics/art/whatever. you can find it by clicking on the JOIN THE SUGAR NINJAS button over there in the navigation box.
b) When sending in your work, make sure to include an artist profile (which should feature the following:
your name
e-mail
website (or deviantart page, or something similar…if applicable)
name and brief description of submission(s)
c) we would also like you to send us a photograph or self portrait that we can use for the MEET THE NINJAS section of the site. in addition, please include a brief bio/resume sort of thing. basically, talk a little about yourself and your work. a few lines would be fine, as would a few paragraphs…it’s up to you. to get an idea of what we’re looking for, click on the MEET THE NINJAS button and check out the girls from volume one.
if you are ALREADY a sugar ninja, you don’t need to resubmit the info for the MEET THE NINJAS web section, but we definitely need the basic artist profile info listed above for the book.
d) i am hopeful that we will get a few more SWEET book submissions this year. as it stands right now, i’m expecting the SPICY book to be everyone’s favorite choice, but i’d like as much girly-girl, family-friendly material as we can get.
e) BLEEDS are fine. just make sure that important elements, like word balloons, are contained within print area.
f) many people have asked about featuring a sequence from their web comics. i very much encourage this. use the sugar ninjas to help promote your comic. as long as the sequence “feels” like a complete sequence, that’s fine. obviously, many of your web comics are ongoing series, but think of it as giving readers a taste or preview of your characters and situation.
g) DO NOT SEND IN FILES FORMATTED FOR THE WEB AT 72 DPI. seriously, zelda will probably strangle me if she gets files like that. please, by all that’s holy, follow the instructions found in the guidelines page. 300 dpi, please.
h) the SOONER you send in your work, the better. i’ve already received a few submissions, complete with profile info AND photo. their place in valhalla is now assured.
i) if using photos (like the awesome dollfie photo comics that muffin sent us for volume one), keep in mind the actual print size and make sure your photos are designed accordingly. tiny little panels will be hard to read. and DEFINITELY go ahead and format the pages however you want the photos to appear on the individual pages of the book.
j) remember, we are looking for all KINDS of material: comics, comic strips, picture book illustrations, pin-ups, character designs, concept designs, photo comics, short text-only stories (which should be FORMATTED to work as specific pages), mainstream comics, manga comics…SO MANY OPTIONS!!!
k) i am soooo hoping for as much manga as possible…
one more thing before i go. the FORUM is on the way. i know i keep saying that, but i’m confident that we can finally deliver very soon. zelda just wants to make sure that the forum is done just right. once it IS available, i think you’ll see it was worth the wait.
whew!
zelda and i can’t WAIT to see what you girls come up with this time around and our goal this year is to make sure that YOU won’t have to wait very long to see the results for yourself. our target date is around may 15h and, with your cooperation, we should have no problem meeting that goal! good luck, everyone!!!
